How to Juice Leafy Green Vegetables.
I get asked this question a lot: Can you juice leafy green vegetables with a centrifugal juicer like the Breville 800Jexl Juicer? And the answer is YES!
A lot of people seem to think that only masticating juicers like the Omega j8004 juicer can juice vegetables like kale and collard greens…not true. With a little know how, you can get the powerful health benefit of dark leafy green vegetables with the juicer you already have.
Now, yes it is true single and twin auger juicers are more suited for juicing leafy vegetables, but that should not stop you from getting the most out of what you have. It is especially important when you are going through a raw food juice cleanse, which requires you to juice greens.

The most common mistake people make when juicing leafy greens with a centrifugal juicer is they just stick the stalks into the juicer individually and loosely, and complain that the juicer doesn’t work. The thing is it’s the method that is flawed. You gotta work with your machine. Unlike a masticating juicer, which basically grinds the vegetables slowly and presses out the juice, a centrifugal juicer uses a spinning blade…at speeds of tens of thousands RPM to shred the vegetables into tiny pieces and uses the screen to filter out the juice.
Have you ever tried to chop loose fresh herbs like cilantro and feels like nothing is happening? If you watch any cooking shows or read cook books, the trick they teach you is to bundle up the herbs into one solid chunk, that way it’s much easier for the knife to make contact. That same trick works with juicing leafy greens. The spinning blade needs to make contact with the vegetables, and the best way to do that is to roll the vegetables up into one solid burrito like bundle.
Not only will you get more juice, it will also save you time. Instead of one stalk at a time, you roll several stalks in to a bundle. Another trick is to sandwich the leafy vegetables in between harder produce, like carrots or apples. Since harder produce takes a bit longer to process, the delay creates compression, and compact the leafy greens even more, and that means more juice! YAY!
